Hernando Beach Fishing Report
Capt. Josh Fritz
Summer is here and scallop season stars on June 28th. Here is a quick scallop report, yesterday me and my client stopped at the scallop grounds on our way back in from his tarpon charter. It was like glass out and we could see the scallops from the boat and it looks like it will be a great scallop season. The scallops are holding around the brown rock grass mixed with our turtle grass. 4 to 7 feet is looking like to water depth.
Inshore fishing is good first thing in the morning with a good moving tide. Snook and red fish are holding along the outside points and mangrove shorelines. Live green backs are the bait of choice right now. Tarpon are very thick right now from Anclote to Homosassa, look for the rolling at first light along the beaches and on the flats in 3 to 8 feet of water. Trout are slow right now they are very scattered from 4 to 12 feet of water. Gag grouper season starts July 1st and we are still catching and releasing them on shallow rocks from 10 to 14 feet out of Hudson to Bayport.
Book your trip ASAP scallop dates are filling up fast and grouper season starts very soon, its a lot of fun to cast plugs on the rocks for shallow water grouper.
