Freshies Report
Summer of 1964
Captain Kathy Brown one of our inshore/offshore fishing specialists has a real interesting freshwater story to tell. In the summer of 1964, while fishing with her uncle, the soon to be Captain Kathy caught a fish. Now that might not sound too interesting. However, it's the way she caught it that made it so unusual. At the age of 9, she was standing in about 31/2 feet of water 'just a fishing away!' Kathy has been a serious fisherman from the get go! As a child fisherman she knew it was always best to be very quite as well as still. As she stood in the water with rod and reel in hand catching anticipation ran wild. However, not a thing did she move while watching her cork. With eyes fixed as well as arms ready to set that hook she felt something basically rubbing inside of her knee. She quickly slammed her legs together and you aren't going to believe this one. Kathy caught and took it to the bank a 12-pound large mouth bass.
Since my Freshies suggestions is suppose to offer up some ways to get your best shot at catching fish, here goes'. Keeping this story in mind, if you stand still long enough the fish in the area will think you are some sort of structure and you will become the center of their universe! The bottom line to this Freshies suggestion is 'always consider fishing around all the still stuff!' (Also sometimes referred to as structure!)
