At 5 am it was already plenty warm so today's goal was to fish early and be off the water noon. Baits been a challenge of late so I opted to sabiki threadfins from a nearby bridge. The baits were very large perfect for cut bait.
A quick run had us on Tampa Bays eastern shoreline. I have been having good success on high tides and today was no exception. The first bait in was inhaled by a redfish over 30". The second bait was hammered by a clone of the first redfish. These redfish put up a great fight with lots of big nasty head shakes. Luckily unlike the snook these bruisers moved away from the Mangroves. Be sure to land these fish quickly, revive and send on their way. The water is pushing 90 and it stresses the fish. The snook action slowed but redfish 20-23" continued to feed aggressively on the high outgoing tide.
Next up we targeted a deep hole in Ft Desoto that has been holding good numbers of small trout. Tossing chunks of threadfin on a 1/0 circle hook resulted in fast action. Trout, Bluefish, Flounder, Ladyfish and sharks all joined the party. The sharks were all 3' and bigger and provided great action on light tackle.
Summer action can be hit or miss today was a homerun!
