Welp, seems like Ol'Capt Dan was a little premature about the cooler nights and the cooler water temps on my last report. Because since my last report, both the air and water surface temps have risen considerably.
The water surface temps on the inner Bay have went from 70 degrees to 77 degrees in a short 10 days with this recent heat wave. In years past this change would have spelled a severe change in the fish's mood. And this change would have meant a fishing drought as it did in years past. But for some reason the fishing has stayed good, and in fact seems to have reverted back to what it was during the late spring/early summer. That is, lots of smaller undersize fish with about every 4th one being a keeper.
I'm seriously perplexed but not complaining about why this is the case this year. The plastic bite also seems to be continually holding its own, and the inner Bay continues to be out fishing the outer Bay this year, all of which is also rare. As usual, I'm posting pictures of my last couple of trips and reminding anybody interested that I have plenty of August dates still available for charters. So until next time, be safe, fish smart and tight lines.
Capt. Dan.
