Another great week of fishing in Fort Lauderdale. We have been fishing a lot this past week and every trip has been really good. King Mackeral have been dominating the reef line with lots of big fish up and down the reef. We have been catching fish from 8-35lbs with most of the fish coming on live bait in the 130ft depth. We have been catching 10-20 of these fish in a day.
While catching kingfish there have been other fish mixed in to keep us guessing. Blackfin tunas remain in the same depth off Ft. Lauderdale. While not as good of numbers as spring time they are just as good of fighters and should remain for another month or two before dissapearing till next spring. The small blackfins are always present so there is always a shot of tuna loin to bring home.
Wahoo have started to show up in decent numbers. Most of these fish have been in the 30-45lb range but every year there are big fish pushing 100lbs. These fish are generally in the same areas pushing slighly deeper as the day progresses. We have been catching them in 160-350ft of water on live bait.
A few sailfish remain and we hooked one this week. Though we are still a few months till the sailfish start running, enough resident fish remain to give us action and we have caught them from Boca Raton to Pomapano beach and down to Fort Lauderdale. Also on the reef the bonitas remain in big numbers. While not a great eating fish these fish fight really hard. They also do a great job of drawing in other predator like wahoo and sharks so they are great to have around.
Offshore the dolphin have been hit or miss. One day there are massive schools out there the next day they aren't. And such is the way it goes escpecially coming up to the full moon. They actively feed during nights when the moon is out so I don't expect great dolphin over the next week.
Swordfishing has been great this week. Daytime fishing fish have been in the 100-300lb. range and nighttime smaller as usual but it has been really comfortable. We had two night trips this past week with fish caught in both. On thurs night we caught 4 and sat 1. It only takes 1 fish to make it a good night of fishing.
Yellowfin tunas are still biting in the bahamas with limits in just a day a possibility. They have been biting best on live bait while live chummming. Fish have been in the 30-75lb. range. These fish will only be around for a little longer so hurry up to book a trip hard fighting fish.
