Fishing Mosquito Lagoon this time of year can have it's ups and downs with strong cold fronts moving through on a more regular basis. Schools can be found all over in good numbers, but getting them to eat can sometimes be a different story. The key is to see them before you get too close with your boat. The next thing you know is you look 5 yards in front of you and have spooked fish bee-lining for open water. This past week definantly had it's ups and downs with schools at almost every spot with alot of them with "lockjaw". I talked with my bait supplier, Alan who runs "Livewire Bait" out of Riverbreeze park a couple days ago. He lives right on the Lagoon and told me with this past full moon the shrimp poored out of the river. Guess I should have went shrimping!!
Logic tells me when the shrimp run like this the fish feed hard at night.
The ticket is to find a "happy" school laid up in a sand hole, catch one, stay put and they will circle around and come right back to your boat.
Tailing reds are in groups of 3-5 fish on almost any flat in the Lagoon. Stealth and patience as you approach. Alot of anglers get too excited, kinda like "buck fever" when hunting, and blow it when they get their shot. Take your time!!
