We had our first take a soldier fishing trip of the year scheduled today, and I must say it was one of the best days I've spent on the water.

Major Justin Niederer and his lovely wife Angela and Capt Jay Caldwell were aboard for a great day. Justin and Jay are in the USAF stationed at McGuire AFB, both have seen duty in the middle east. The was Justins last hurrah for Saltwater as he's being transfered to Kansas.

Day started out blowing and we deceided to delay departure to give it a chance to lay down, and it did very nicely. Once underway we headed to Old Orchard, I anchored up on a nice hole that always perduces, and it was away from the fleet

I didn't take long and the rods were screaming as the fish responded to the chunking........at times all hands were battling fish. Huge chopper Blues to 15 lbs were the fish of the day, but we also pulled two nice bass a 33" and a34", we had several runs which were bass but we didn't connect.

The best part of the day was making three new friends. We talked in depth about a lot of subjects and both Justin and Jay stated how much this program means to our soldiers.........

Weather was sunny and warm after the wind laid down, fished the last of incoming to the outgoing. It did blow up in the afternoon when we packed it in.

Fish Species: Striped Bass-Blues
Bait Used: Bunker
Tackle Used: Conventional
Method Used: Chunking
Water Depth: 26
Water Temperature: 54
