Tamarindo Report- June 16th, Capt. Adam

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MAN TODAY WAS ONE OF THOSE DAYS!!!

Had Tim Nickey and his wife out from Florida on the boat today. We ran offshore about 15 miles and found a good area of sticks, logs scattered, and lots of debri floating around. As soon as we found the area, we had a nice Blue Marlin come screaming in on one of the corner baits, and then the grey houding began!! Fought him for about an hour and released him, all 350lbs worth. Kept trolling until we came up on the mother load of all logs.. We came up on one and the whole meter went red with bait and tuna down to 150ft. and instantly got ransacked by big Dorado! We landed one big Bull that went 50lbs. and lost another. Thats all it took and we shut the engines down and began dropping Sumo Iron jigs down below, yo-yoing up either a football Yellowfin or smaller 10lb. size dorado each time! Released soo many fish, lost count. We caught some amberjacks and some nice sized rainbow runners as well. Saw a Marlin come in and destroy the bite, crushing dorado and yellowfin.. what a sight! All the fish tore out of there for the moment and we had no luck hooking that marlin trolling the perimeter with baits and bigger lures.. we moved on. About 1 mile later- well, a bigger log comes in sight and wouldnt you know... the same darn thing- LOADED!!! We caught some more yellowfin and dorado, and saw yet another Marlin come in feeding on this log too.. This time we were prepared- pop goes down a live Yellowfin Tuna- 8lb. football.. and yes, seconds later were ON!! The Tiagra 50 wide goes peeling and we went full speed into another 400lb. Marlin jumping ballistic right off the side of the boat! Boat side another 45 minutes and done deal- Tim's wife got some great photos and hope to post them soon when they return back home. We left after that last Marlin and could have hooked another maybe- just felt we had enough. Ran through a nice rain squall on the way back in- cleaned the decks off and rinsed off the reels- love that! What a day..everyone needs to experience this kind of action- especially fishing live yellowfin for Marlin.

One note: One other boat just a couple miles south of me found the same kind of log deal too- but with lots of Wahoo- he said they caught 14 Wahoo!!

This is the norm here this time of year: june, july, august

Get your trips planned soon...
