What a fun filled day on Tampa Bay! With Dan and Dave both looking for bragging rights I knew it would be a fun day. The hot trout bite continued with trout after trout taken. MirrOlure MirrOdines were irresistible to spotted sea trout. No bigger fish this outing but big numbers of fish.
Next up we went to Captain Steven's mackerel hole and like clockwork it was party on! Explosive drag screaming action best describes the action on light tackle. Incoming or outgoing tides work just as long as the water is moving. Long shank 2/0 hooks and at least 30 pound leader will help deter cutoffs. Check for fraying and retie as needed. Deploying a chum bag keeps the macks nearby.
Next stop Pinellas Point looking for sharks, trout, reds and mackerel. Dave saw a shark and cast a shrimp at it. The Bonnethead turned and hammered the bait. This shark was around 45" big for a Bonnetthead and made some thrilling runs on light tackle. From up in the tower I saw 20-25 sharks in an hour. I have not seen and white bait on the flats yet.
We managed a few small redfish prior to calling it a day.
