Tampa Bay Oct 13 Fishing Report

I missed a couple weeks as I was out in Montana bow hunting for elk. Although I did not score on a big bull I sure had a lot fun trying and really enjoyed myself in the fall colored mountains surrounded by nature. When I returned the fall fishing was is in full swing.

I have said it many times; October is my very favorite time of year. Everything is biting and the weather is great and that is what I came home to after my vacation. Snook are on fire and biting everywhere. Really there are all the Snook you want to catch. The Red fishing has been very good as well. I have seen several nice schools in different locations and most we have caught are nice slot fish in the 25 to 27 inch class. Trout are everywhere, we have had to weed through a lot of shorts to get keepers, but the action is really fast. There is also some really nice 24 inch plus Mackerel mixed in with them.

Beach fishing was really good for a little while until we had the last cold front. Tarpon, Sharks, Kingfish and Mackerel all mixed together. The blow scattered them out and moved everything further offshore, but they will probably move back in with warming water temps and lighter winds.

The offshore fishing hasn't been spectacular, but will be any day now. Kingfish are out there and moving in closer as I write this. The Snapper fishing is still very good. There has been a lot of short Grouper but that really varies from day to day. There are plenty of keepers out there too. I have heard a few guys say they have been running into some Cobia as well. It's time for offshore fishing to really fire up much like the inshore.

I hope you have enjoyed my report, Have a nice time on the water and enjoy our fall fishing bonanza.
