Tampa Bay September Fishing Report
Fishing has been spectacular these past few weeks. It really has been strong all summer, but with water temps cooling a little bit it seems things have really been heating up. This is always a great time to be on the water as fall approaches.
The Snook fishing has been very good. Some of my better days we have easily caught 50 plus Snook. Usually fast as you could get bait in the water. The Snook have been a little over 30 inches which is a great fight on light tackle. I have even had a few days while my fisherman where throwing live bait I broke out the top water artificial bait and the Snook and Redfish where jumping on them almost as fast.
Red fishing has been equally as good. We have had no problem getting perfect slot limits around 24 to 26 inches. We've been catching plenty of smaller ones as well and a few large over size bulls which is always much appreciated action.
The Trout have really been hot as well. With water cooling the Trout are starting to average a lot nicer in size. The action is very fast, one cast you may catch a 13 incher and the next in the very same spot maybe a 23 incher. It seems there are a lot of all sizes mixed together. The largest I have been catching are in the 24 to 25 inch range, which is really nice fish, just shy of trophy size which is what I call 26 or better for a Trout.

Mackerel are also thick on the beaches. Some days it seems as though they are crashing down the beach as far as you can see. Pretty much if you like catching an eating Mackerel, as long as the winds are low, the action is as fast as one can keep up with baiting the hook.
There are also Kingfish moving into the area. Most of the ones I have been seeing are smaller ones mixed in with the Mackerel. The larger ones are right around the corner and I am sure there are some offshore by now.
I have not myself been offshore much to see what's going on because the inshore fishing has been so good. I plan to make it offshore a few times this week as well. So I will have more to report on the Grouper and Kingfish on the next report.
Well I hope you have enjoyed my report, please feel free to contact me anytime if you have any fishing questions or would like to plan a trip.
