Tarpon & Snook Fishing Miami Aboard Lunkerdog
This report is from my client Michael Grimm.
When I heard that my friend Payam from Jacksonville has never caught a tarpon, I knew exactly who to call. I have fished with Captain Jeff before and it is always a pleasure to be aboard with a skilled captain and all around good guy.
My good fishing buddy Scott also came along as he has had some bad luck with tarpon recently and needed to get the momentum in his favor again.
The objective was simple, let's get some tarpon and a snook or two would be a bonus. Upon arriving to the area, the tarpon were having a field day and busting baits all around the boat. They were doing their thing nicely while we observed and captain Jeff got us each setup with a bait.
I believe we had baits in the water for 5 minutes when Payam yells, "fish on!" He had a nice fight with his smooth Quantum Cabo Spinning Reel. The tarpon was a beauty and at about 15-20lbs or so (my favorite size on light tackle), it gave us the opportunity to catch and release it fast, while Payam checks tarpon off his list.
Over the course of the rest of the night we had great action. I hooked into the big fish of the night it put on a nice show, before we released it boat side. I got to break in Captain Jeff's brand new Fin-Nor Ahab Reel in which you can see the video here:
The final tally of the night was 5 tarpon and 4 snook.
