Zee Poons, zee poons! Mosquito Lagoon's north end is holding pretty good size tarpon crashing the mullet schools if you are out during their "feeding time". Mid mornings, if you catch it with a 5-10 knot wind or less, feeding poons can be seen leaping through the air at almost anything that moves. Although still a bit tricky to catch, jumbo live shrimp tail hooked will be your best live bait. I have also got reports that smaller windcheaters fished right through the baitfish are producing hook ups. These fish are anywhere from 20-150 pounds, so be ready in case one of the big boys takes your bait with at least 20-30 pound braided line spooled up. Their time here is limited for the year so get on em before they take cover for the winter months.

Large redfish are in deeper water gorging themselves on the bait schools and early mornings have been the most productive. Pigfish are at a good size right now to hook one of these bruisers. Larger pig = larger red! Slot reds are in the shallow flats with the water level being up taking jerkbaits. Trout fishing has been slow this week but can be caught along the spoil islands and around the ICW.

Good luck and keep fishing, that trophy is out there waiting for you!!
