Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 2/23/08
Water Temperature 49 degrees
The fishing is definitely picking up; everyday its getting better the bass are starting to move and the bites are little better. This week produced some of my biggest fish of the year so far and it has just seemed to get better and better. There were still some struggles but the bass definitely have grouped and are spending some of the day up on the flats looking for baitfish.
Its also getting a little easier to work some of the faster moving baits as the grass is rotting and pulling away from the bottom and the new growth is starting to show.
We caught fish this past week on rattle baits, Punisher Spinner baits, Mister Twister small finesse worms and Tight-Line Jigs. We fished mainly 6 foot up working grass lines and flats most of the week. The windy weather made for some tough boating but in most cases the fishing was worth the rough water struggles. I fished the lake from the mid part up river to Crow Creek so I worked several miles of the lake and caught fish in many different areas.
Work the deeper areas early and move up on top as the sun pushes the day forward and you should be able to have some great catches throughout the lake. Pre-Spawn is near, we just need a few warm days and a little sun to turn it on!
