Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 12/8/07
Water temperature main lake 53 to 55 degrees
Water temperature in the creeks 51 degrees
The water temperature in the lake is down in the low 50's and the fall feeding frenzy appears to have slowed some. The bigger bass are moving in a winter pattern feeding on slower baits like jerk baits and suspending shad raps and a slow presentation of a worm or Tight Line jigs.
This past week we really had to fish with patience to be successful. We caught bigger fish most of the week with Wednesday being the best for me. We only had 7 bass that day but all were over 4 pounds, and lost 2 that would have been bigger than anything we had put in the boat.
There is still a lot of shad and bait and until we get some real cold weather the bait will be around to lead you to the bass. One area I pulled up to the bass were just pounding the bait on top of some grass and caught 9 off that area on Thursday, they were 2 to 3 pound fish but it was some quick action for my customer. These fish responded to small crank bait and a finesse worm.
I spent most of the week fishing from Waterfront to Town Creek, fishing the mouth of the inlets and creeks as the bass are staging out toward the deeper water. The grass is still very thick in areas, we really need some cold or hard rain to thin the grass back before spring or we could have a tough time in the spring finding the bass.
