Not having a guide trip this weekend I asked my wife Susan if she would like to go with me to a local lake in Ocala National Forest by the name of Lake Bryant. I normally tight line this lake with jigs tipped with small minnows but I couldnt get small enough minnows for my liking so we decided to long line troll artificial baits. Well I think I found a new way to fish this lake. We trolled in 11-12 foot of water at about 1.2 mph with our baits suspended at one to two foot. Starting with eight rods out the back of the boat the Crappie action got so fast that we got down to four rods and all I could do was to net the wifes fish. After fishing for about two and a half hours we had kept 35 fish and had caught at least three times as many. Who says the Crappie don't bite well this time of year.
