Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 8/4/07
The extreme heat took its toll on the lake this past week, the water temperature has pushed up to 88 degrees and the bass are looking for cooler water and oxygen.
Needless to say the bite got tougher as the week went on. My clients had a better early part of the week than the later part. The fish count was down and the bite was definitely slower. Although the size of the bass were still in the 3 to 4 pound range the number of opportunities slowed drastically.
We fished the lake from the lower end to the Goose Pond area fishing grass edges and humps in 4 to 11 feet of water. A bite that did turn on for the first time in a while for me was the crank bait bite. Finding eleven feet water with some grass on top you were able to run an eight feet diving crank bait over the top and find some bites.
With the heat and water temperature up the fish should be hiding under the matted grass and should give way to a great flipping bite. Its time to get out you're flipping stick and get to the deep grass. If you would like to try your luck and fish or learn some new techniques I do have some available days this week. Please call for details.
