INSHORE - The inshore has improved some this week with the wind finally calming down. Still looking for the slot size snook but they have been hard to come by. But, it seems that most of the reports of keeper size fish are coming from Taylor Creek, the North Bridge and in the Ft Pierce Inlet at night. At Taylor Creek you will want to use small jigs, rubber baits or big diving plugs. Try a live bait like a mullet, pinfish or a pigfish at the bridge and in the Inlet. The trout action has been steady on the high tides when the water is the cleanest. A top water bait fished early in the morning has been your best bet then you will need to switch to a live shrimp around 9:00am. I did get reports of some redfish in the Ft. Pierce Inlet and they were taking live finger mullet. Also, look for the tarpon around the Inlet early in the morning and just after dark. Along the channel edges of the Intercoastal there is still plenty of action coming from the snapper, black drum, sheepshead, bluefish and all the ladyfish and jacks you want. All of these fish have been feeding on live shrimp. The tripletail are still making a small showing at the channel markers to the south of the power lines.

OFFSHORE - The sea conditions are getting better but still running 3 to 4 feet. This has made it rough for the smaller boats to get out. The boats that have been going are reporting a fair sailfish bite in 100 to 135 feet of water to the south of 12-A buoy. Most of the fish are taking ballyhoo. I did have reports of several wahoo in the 20 to 30 pound range. The wahoo were in 210 feet of water and they were straight out of the Ft. Pierce Inlet and taking a red/black skirted ballyhoo fished at a high speed. Try for kingfish in 70 to 90 feet of water around the Offshore Bar and use a live bait. The bottom fishing for snapper, grouper and other mixed bottom fish has improved over the reefs and wrecks. A live bait or a piece of cut bait will do just fine. Along the beaches look for tarpon, spanish mackerel, snook and bluefish to keep you busy.

Bio: Capt. Joe has been fishing the waters of the Indian River since he was 6 years old. When his father first took him snook fishing on the old wooden bridges using nothing more than a Calcutta pole, 100 pound mono and a big mullet attached to a 6/0 hook. Capt. Joes first snook wasn't that big, about 10 pounds, but after a 5 minute fight his father helped him flip the snook up onto the bridge and that is when Capt. Joe knew he was hooked on snook fishing. Capt. Joe is a U.S.C.G. licensed Captain as well as a MET registered Captain.
