Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 9/8/07
Fishing this past week for my customers had a lot to do with the natural elements; when we had some breeze the fishing was great when we didn't we had to turn to some different fish and struggled some for bites. The good news was that with one exception we managed a good solid 6-pound fish each day plus some smaller fish. We averaged some good numbers on all day trips and fair numbers on the short days.
We also caught fish on a variety of baits, the wind turned on the Punisher Spinner Bait bite on my watermelon color; if it was still "no wind" we caught them on black and blue Tight-Line Jigs in 7 to 10 feet of water. The early mornings produced many top water strikes on buzz baits, and the sun turned on the "rat" bite over the matted grass.
All said if you could work with the elements the weather gave you, it was not a bad week on the water at all. The better news is the mats are starting to show signs of black icky dieing grass and that means the "rat" bite should get much better over the next few weeks. The baitfish is everywhere and the fish are showing signs of moving to the creeks for the fall eating frenzy. Not to be forgotten, the weather is cooling a little, the water temperature has dropped a few degrees and it's quite pleasant on the lake.
There is plenty of great fishing coming up the rest of this month and next. I'd love to show you the fun and excitement of Lake Guntersville in the fall.
