Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 12/1/07
This past week the fishing was pretty good for numbers; the small bass were very active feeding on bait most of the week. We had one day where we boated nearly 70 bass in a variety of sizes from 9 inch to 6 pounds. The activity was fierce especially on Wednesday where we caught, doubles, triples, pulling bass in about as fast as you could cast. We caught 2 fish on-one-bait several times, as they were just pounding small crank baits, and rattle baits.
The bigger fish however seem to be heading to the deeper water for the winter as they are not nearly as active as the smaller ones. The water temperature is cooling into the low 50's and the bigger fish are generally first to slow and go into a winter pattern. Most of the bigger bass we caught over the week were caught on Tight-Line Jigs along 9-foot grass edges, using a slow presentation to entice them.
Most of the week I spent fishing up river as I generally do this time of year; I've just always found it more active up river in early winter. It won't be long now the winters are short here and I expect to see some great activity from the bigger bass by the middle of January.
