We're right in the middle of the dog days of summer; the temperature and the fishing are HOT! I want to take a minute to thank my entire list of guests that booked me so far this season. I hope to see each and every one of you again next year. I'd also like to recognize all the people around me that sacrifice during the summer while I'm doing what I love to do. This season has been just awesome and I'm really looking forward to my favorite time of the fishing season that's just around the corner, the running of the Bull Red fish.
I'd also like to take a minute to recognize all my sponsors that keep my expenses down, this helps me keep my overhead down and reflects in my rates. My newest sponsor is Lee Fisher Cast Nets
(www.justcastnets.com) what a net, it's the best net that I have ever owned, if you're in the market for a new bait net you need not look any further- these nets are some of the best out there. Blazer Bay Boats are tough, my 2420 is my favorite boat that I have ever owned (www.blazerboats.com), Yamaha Outboards -what can is say, (www.yamahaoutboards.com), SPRO Fishing Tackle, check out the new BBZ-1!! (www.spro.com), Gamakatsu Hooks have a wide selection of the sharpest hooks available (www.gamakatsu.com), Big Bite Baits Inc. If you haven't seen these soft plastic baits yet you need to look at this web site, they have a great selection and they are fish catching baits (www.bigbitebaits.com) Pure Fishing is a great company (www.purefishing.com), they are the parent company for - Berkley, Abu Garcia, Fenwick, Stren, Shakespeare, Penn, Pflueger, All-Star, X-Tools, Mitchell, Johnson, Spider & 7-Strand. Gulp & ABU Garcia, Shakespeare Fishing - All-Star Rods & Penn Reels.
The near shore Red Snapper fishing is still good right now. Downsizing my gear to the lightest size has been drawing the most bites and for bait the small menhaden are working best for me. The King Mackerel are still out in deeper water, catching them in close is hard to do. Lots of the Spanish mackerel are moving into the bay, just look for the birds working schooling fish and you will find the Spanish.
In and around Pensacola Pass there's an early show of Bull Reds, I've caught some in the bay as far up as the 3-mile Bridge and as far east as Navarre in Santa Rosa Sound. I'm sure there are some to the west also; I just haven't been in that direction looking for them yet. I also saw a nice school of Bull Reds just off the beach to the east of Pensacola Pass a couple of days ago. I've been catching most of my Red Fish in Pensacola Pass, bouncing SPRO jigs down close to the bottom along with drifting live baits; try a couple ounces of weight on a Carolina rig and a live cigar minnow or a nice sized pin fish -this has been getting the job done for me.
The inshore fishing is not far away from getting good! The Red Fish on the docks are fairly reliable and using big top water plugs are catching nice Speckled Trout early in the day.
So many fish, so little time!
I know one thing for sure - You ain't going to catch'em sittin' on the couch!!
So get out there, and take a kid fishing. God Bless.
