The water was still clear near dark and very little sign of it starting to be dirty.
And for Guides Gary Colford and Carl Hallihan there day was very good aswell at Bowns Pool. With 3 out of 4 guest hooking fish. A couple very nice salmon. And Gary also hooked a 17lb salmon on a Spey Rod.
I was invited up river today with some friends at there Pool, near a pool that use to be long to Ted Williams and we had very good results. The Pool is called The Run. Al landed a 15lb salmon. Lonnie landed a grilse, and I lost a salmon & grilse.
Flies for the day were Bombers with orange hackle. And Green Machine, Rodgers Fancy, Bear Hair and Shady Lady.
For fish that we landed today please check the fish catch section.

The Lower stretches of the Miramichi today was very good with fish being hooked on different patterns of flies. Dry or Wet flies the fish seem to like what ever was thrown at them. Jack Driscoll got his 1st ever Atlantic Salmon yesterday and today he landed a 30lb female Salmon, on a white tail green machine and also lost a grilse.
His brother Curtis a veteran to the Miramichi got a grilse early this morning and at almost dark this evening on a bomber with orange hackle he thought he had his brother beat! When this huge salmon came up for his bomber and thrashed the water drying to get loose. We were watching the scale but it only hit the 25lb mark. Steen Lovette got a grilse also on a green machine.
Larry Van Peursem got a grilse on a bomber. And Stan Trzop got a grilse aswell. They were fishing above the mouth of Cains river in a pool called the Run, Across from the pool that the famous Ted Williams once owned.
The Mouth of Cains today had very good results with 10 fish hooked early this morning from local anglers. In the Doaktown area today there was some fish hooked and several more seen leaping in the pools. Boyd Gilks hooked a couple today in the Doaktown area but they got away.
The river temp got down tonight to 64 F, And with all the rain we got it should start bringing the river up through the night. Tomorrow should be very good fishing up and down the river. Huge Salmon are not being very shy showing there selves leaping in most of the pools up and down the river. What a amazing site to see.
Flies of the day were Green machines, Undertakers, Bombers.
Have a good day and get out and get fishing,

For G.R.Colford & Sons-
Water conditions were pretty fair this morning at 67.5 F. And with over cast skies the fish were still very slow to take a fly. We did manage to pick up a couple at Hogan's Pool By guest Bryant Freeman of Escape Angler's. And Paul Vernon of England got a Salmon. All our other Angler's only rolled there fish and could not get them to take. Maybe tomorrow with some rain in the forecast will get the fish to take better and on through into the weekend. But all in all with the warm weather we are having we have had very good fishing for the month of July. Some local anglers are all ready in double digits for fish count this season. We also seen fish in Cains River today again in the lower stretches from Salmon Brook down.

The last couple of days on the South West Miramichi River was very good fishing for G.R.Colford & Sons. The Lower Stretches have seen very good reports of fish coming in. With the water in the high 60's. The fish are still going for the fly very well. The home pool Bounds has some very huge fish rolling and jumping in it. Hogan's also is picking up some fish and some are holding at the hot spots in the pool. Vickers Bar and the Half Bar are starting to get some fish in them as well with some being around the 20lb plus range. Emounds Pool is still having very good results with fish being hooked in the morning and evening. The witherall front and money Island also has several fish holding and moving through.
On other parts of the river there are fish being caught and seen at the mouth of the Renous, Mouth of Bartholomew, Blackville pool, Dungarvan river, Mouth of Cains river,Upper Blackville, Blissfield and Doaktown.
As for the water level for the Main South West Miramichi it is at a pretty good level for most of the pools. some of the lower end pools would like to see it drop a bit lower.
Flies for the last couple of days were for wet flies - green machines white tails, under takers, Silver rat's, Silver Stout's Tail. And for dry flies - Brown Bomber-brown hackle and also with orange hackle. Green bombers white ends, Christmas tree bomber and also the Carters Bug.
For fish catches please see the fish catch section.

On the South West Miramichi for Monday the water temp was 68 degrees F. And for the evening it got up to 72 F. There were still some fish being hooked and we were seeing a lot jumping and rolling. There were 3 fish landed across from my clients today at Bounds Pool. We did manage to roll a few but had no takers. Also At Hogan's Pool there were 2 fish landed on green machines. Edmounds pool also seen some fish in it and the sports managed to roll a couple but no takers. The river is still holding its level very good. And is just a bit high for the lower stretches of the river, but great for the upper stretches of the river. I will try and have some better reports for you tomorrow night.
Tight lines,

Salmon Angling on the South West Miramichi River the past week has had very good results for the angler. With very good runs of grilse and most in the 5lb range. And some very huge salmon from 20 to 30 pounds being hooked. We are hearing good results from the Upper Stretches of the river to the Middle Stretches and the Lower Stretches of the river of fish being caught. The water is staying up and making it very good for all the river. As it is getting in the middle of July now the water is starting to get warmer so hopefully we will get cooler nights or some cool rain to keep the temperature in the 60's.
On the North West Miramichi Anglers are also having very good reports up and down the river. With a lot of grilse being reported caught in the 4 & 5 lb range. And seeing a lot of fish in the pools.
On the Upper North Pole catch & release stretch - the fishing was tough - high water and no fish showing at all. But the Anglers did manage to catch a grilse and a nice (32") male. They said there didn't seem to be many fish around, but with the high water it was hard to tell.
On the Cains River there are reports of fish on the lower stretches from Sabbies River, Salmon Brook, Cold Brook & Buttermilk Brook, Brophy Pool and the Mouth of Cains River. There were some fish hooked at the Elem Tree Pool this week as well on the Cains. I have no report of the Upper Stretches of the Cains.
At the Salmon Classic dinner tonight at the Rod some guest seen a couple fish jump, So it looks like there are still some moving up stream.
So with pretty good numbers of fish around the river system you should have know trouble getting over fish or seeing some Silvers. So get out and try your best this week and put your fish catches up and maybe just maybe hook into that 30 lb plus Salmon of your dreams.
And for a late Sunday evening
tight lines and happy angling,
Rodney Colford

The South West Miramichi River. For G.R.Colford & Sons.
The hot weather over the past couple of days has put the river up in temperature in the late afternoon to 70 degrees F. Making it very hard to get fish to take. Some reports of fish being hooked in the early morning when the temp is 64F or 65F. Late evening fishing has not been very good. Best to try getting out at the crack of dawn and get your fishing done early. And it also helps to avoid harming fish in the warmer water in the afternoon.
There was a grilse hooked in the Doaktown area this morning on a green machine. And one landed at the Witheral Front by a local angler. And Eddie Curtis hooked 2 at the Blackville Pool in the early morning. So some fish being hooked but we really need some cooler days and nights. Yesterday Glenda Powell of Ireland rolled 4 fish using a dry fly for her 1st time with her 15foot Loop Rod and Reel.
Also this week is the Miramichi Classic which is held by the MSA that has people from all over the world fishing in this event. I would like to say good luck to all the fisherman and women that they have attending this event.
Bye for now,
Rodney Colford
