Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 11/17/07
This past week proved to be extremely tuff to find the bigger fish. I believe even though the water temperature is at ideal feeding temperature that the bass have moved into an early winter pattern. They are slow, lethargic in their feeding patterns and proving to be a challenge for the most part. The bigger fish when feeding are only feeding every 3 to 5 days and that is for a short period of time. If you are lucky to be there when they turn on you can have a good day.
The fish we caught all week long are the smaller fish that are still hitting moving baits and feeding on the enormous amount of bait fish on the lake.
The small fish we caught; were on Punisher Spinner-Baits, rattle baits and shallow running crank baits. The few bigger ones came on ½ oz. Tight Line Jigs in black and blue or black and red with small complementary colored trailers. To find the bigger fish you worked hard and long around 9-foot grass edges moving your baits slowly and letting them sit on the bottom for a few seconds at a time. I believe we will see the tougher times until we get on the back side of the winter solstice where the sun starts producing the warmer and slightly longer days. To me along with my many years of documented history from now until Christmas is the toughest time on the lake; then the 21st of December the fish become a bit more active as we move through winter and into spring patterns unless we get an extremely cold winter.
