The Worm Plan!
My father as a small child loved to fish as well as catch them. According to him, "a regular ground worm" was about the best bait ever. If the worm was presented properly and a fish was there "nine times out of ten" you would get a hit. My father caught all kinds of fish on worms so therefore when it came to finding them he was a genius!
According to my father worms like moist wet fertile black dirt, which offered up plenty of food and the least amount of resistance to move about in. Fishermen dug for worms in these areas, because they were closer to the surface. However, if there hadn't been much rain and the soil was dry the worms stayed deep in the best moist conditions. My father being a fisherman that would rather fish than dig came up with a most workable plan. He would pour two to three pales of creek water on the nearest dry spot by the pond and then wait a couple of hours while the worms worked their way closer to the surface. You got to love a fisherman like this that has come up with a two-way catching plan!
