Tight Line Charters Lake Lanier Fishing Report

Month- Mid March

Lake Elevation- 1068.09 (-2.91)

Surface Temp- 52 in the back of the stained creeks and 50 out on the main lake

Water Clarity-Stained in the back of most of the creeks and the main lake is clear

Stripers- The past week has been really good for big fish. The main pattern that I have been using is flatline and planner boards with medium size bluebacks. I have not done well with the trout and have not had any gizzard shad. The planner board has been better for picking up Spotted Bass. The first two hours of the morning is still the best for a big fish. We are still catching a fair number of fish on the ¼ oz and 3/8oz Mack Farr bucktail tipped with a small fluke. Cast this around docks and banks as you are working the back of the creeks with flatlines and planner boards. I have been concentrating on the lower end of the lake and mid way to the back of the creeks.

Bass-The Spotted Bass are up and moving into warm water. Clay banks with stumps are holding a good number of small fish. Fish these areas with a slow presentation as the water is still in the low 50s. Docks and coves are also starting to produce some nice fish. Our best bite around docks has been while using a 3/16oz tungsten weight and a green pumpkin finesse worm. A 3/80z Mack Farr bucktail is also working. Keep the retrieve steady and slow. On the sandy pockets we are catching them by using a crawdad colored Shad Rap and then following up with a finesse worm or a small jig tipped with a crawdad trailer. The bucktail bite is a close second. Up the lake seems to be the best for numbers but the fish are small. For the bigger fish, stay down below Browns Bridge and focus on the above areas. Main lake points are also producing a few nice fish. The pattern is slow but the fish are big.

Crappie-The fish have finally turned on and the fishing seems to be steady. The only problem I am finding is, I can only pick a handful of fish out of a school and they shut down. I'll come back to them a couple of hours later and typically catch about half as many as I did the first time. Concentrate on docks with brush or structure. The fish are a little shallower than they have been. So concentrate on docks with 15 feet out off the end or work the back of the dock a little more thorough. 1/32 or 1/16 oz tube jig is your best bet. I am using a red / chartreuse tube jig made by Bass Pro Shops.
