Fishing has remained good along Florida's Space Coast reports Captain Keith Mixon (www.mixinworkwithplay.com). In the past week, trout have been hitting a wide variety of top water lures when fished along the eastern shoreline of the Indian River as well as the western shoreline of the No Motor Zone. When fishing inside the No Motor Zone, low light conditions have been very productive while wading the flats in three feet of water or less. The average length of these trout have been sixteen inches with an occasional larger fish. In addition, slot size redfish have been biting live shrimp or scented jerk baits when hooked weedless. Calm conditions has allowed clients the opportunity to target these reds when sight casting near sandy pot holes. Small schools of these reds have been spotted along the eastern shoreline of Mosquito lagoon.
At Port Canaveral, sheepshead continue to bite small jig heads tipped with shrimp around the jetties as well as other structure. Most of the fish caught have weighed three pounds or less. When fishing for sheepshead, anglers will need to have patience. They are known to nibble around the hook before a successful hook up.
