Sacramento River Trout Guides Rainbow Trout and Shad Fishing Report
Trout fishing for wild bows' has slowed a bit but has still been very productive with a bit of hard work on the lower Sacramento River from Redding, Ca. downriver to Red Bluff, Ca. as reported by Sacramento River trout guides. Most trout average 14 to 20 inches or 1 to 3 pound average with some 20 plus inches in the 3 to 5 pound class. Sidedrifting small egg colored glo bugs or Quickie puffballs have been best bet. Drifting live baits like crickets or crawlers have kicked out some good fish as well as backtrolled small Hot shot 50's or K-4 kwikfish. Multiple hook-ups are not uncommon and Sacramento river trout guides and Dave Jacobs have reported 15 to 25 rainbow trout per outing this past week. Shad fishing has slowed to a crawl for the mid day trips but good shad fishing has continued in the early mornings and last hours of daylight in the evenings from Red Bluff, Ca. downriver to Chico, Ca. Best bets are small 1/16th ounce chartreuse, red or bright orange lead head jigs with small 1 inch curly tailed grubs in chartreuse, hot pink or red/white. Multiple hook-ups are common on every outing. Trout/ shad combo trips are available right now with Dave Jacobs of Professional guide service. Boats cannot go through the Cypress Street bridge construction site at this time. All boat passage is closed when river releases exceed 7000 cfs.
Trinity River Salmon Guides Spring Salmon Report
Salmon fishing on the Trinty River is still producing nice chinook salmon for Trinity river salmon guides. Most salmon are averaging 8 to 12 pounds with an occasional 15 to to 20 pound salmon being taken from Lewiston, Ca. downriver to Junction City, Ca. Angler's are allowed two salmon per day at this time. Trinity river water releases have dropped to 450 cfs and have stabilized and more Trinity River Spring salmon are showing everyday as reported by Trinity river salmon fishing guides. Some really nice steelhead are mixed in as well with most being wild and being released. Backboucing roe or sidedrifting bait has been best bet for Trinity river salmon. We were able to boat one to three salmon per outing this past week. Barbless hooks are required and all wild steelhead must be released. Salmon and steelhead report cards are required to fish this system for either salmon or steelhead and report cards must be filled out prior to the start of a anglers fishing day.
