It has been an interesting week.We have had just about every kind of weather
mother nature can offer.Rain,Wind,Cold Heat and some of these combined
in the same day.The fish don't seem to mind these changes as the bite
has been steady each day.The spawn is wide open here on the St Johns River
and the big fish are eating well.A couple days we just didn't have the luck
on our side and couldn't seem to get the big fish in the boat.On Saturday I
had the pleasure of fishing with some great guys from Brazil. Jacques
10 years old Jacques JR and Gramps joined me for a 6 hr trip.
These guys are used to fishing for the Amazon Peacock Bass and know
how to fight a big fish. This was the day we just couldn't get a break on
getting the big fish to the boat.Young 10 year old Jacques hooked three
fish that were in the 9 to 11 pound range. The reason we know the weight is
all three fish jumped close to the boat before coming unbuttoned.
One of these fish rapped up in a stump and with about three ft of 25 pound
mono line coming out the other side of the stump this fish jumped twice as
I was getting the boat to with in a few ft of the stump. The final jump broke
the line.Jacques was heart broken and so were the rest of us in the boat.
Today I fished a fullday with Marv and Margie of WIC.We were greeted with
rain at daylight and never seen the sun until around 2 pm.The bite was steady
most of the day Margie won the most caught with 9 fish but Marv did come
through with the big fish of the day weighing 8 pounds. Most of the fish caught
today were in the 3 to 5 pound range.Large flats just off the main river seem to
be the ticket to finding the spawning fish in the Blue Springs area of the St Johns River.
