Started off with a late start this morning however was just going out scouting since we did not have a charter booked. YES...If we aren't booked we do scout the areas for concentrations of fish and sizes. We launched at 10:30 and headed straight for the docks that are scattered along the West wall of the Indian River just north of Jensen beach. We started throwing Mirro Lures and Xraps however fish seemed reluctant to commit to striking, they would follow the lure however not actually striking it. Switched over to throwing DOA Shrimp in Chartreuse color and it was just like ringing the dinner bell. First cast produced a Trout of 19" that just inhaled the bait. Continued working up the wall not fishing any area too hard and continued to pull fish with out any problem. Found a school of Redfish holding in 2' of water that seemed to be soaking up the sun and first cast into the fish produced the first red of the day. Continued to find other areas that were loaded with Reds and caught 2 more fishing the 1-2' range. Started targeting docks to check if the Snook were still holding and after the first 2 docks decided that the fish are still holding on the docks very well. First dock produced a 27" Snook and the second produced a monster 46" Snook. shooting over to the area of Little Mudd I decided to drift the potholes to see if the fish were holding on both sides of the river, not to be outdone on 1 short drift 18 fish came to the boat with one Trout being in the 7 pound range. tide changed and I shot back to the West wall to fish areas that prior were unaccesible even with the 20' Hewes Flats and continued throwing the DOA Shrimp and it never failed, found schools of LARGE Trout that had showed up with the tide change very receptive to hitting. This was just a scouting trip and the count for a 4 hour trip was 50 Trout, 2 Snook and 3 Redfish. This was run and gun fishing at it's finest and there are plenty of fish out there to be caught as all fish were released to be caught another day.
