On my last trip we caught the heck out of the redfish. I had Huston Astros ball player Luke Scott out with Terry and Terra Williams for a fun competitive day. After we spanked many reds we went searching for our trout and we caught many just not the big ones. They competed for first fish, biggest fish, and most fish. In the end each of them took a category so it was a bust. It was all fun though. The weather has been unusually warm this October and we will probably have some cool weather soon says the weatherman. The water has been high in the lagoon and has spread the field out a little. The bait is every where and if you use live bait I suggest injuring it before you toss it out or clip the tail a little. If you use Gulp like I do just toss it out and let it sit on the bottom. The sent will draw them in especially after the pinfish hammer it for a few minutes. We call this dead sticking. Another thing that has been working is the Johnson silver minnow spoon. The vibration that it gives out makes the reds and trout attack them. All spoons don't work the same I have noticed but the Johnson spoon is a good one.
The big reds are spawning now and they are at the jetties. You can also take a black drum and a few flounder at the rocks. Spanish mackerel, sharks and a kingfish may be in the aria as well. The wind has been blowing so you will have to pick your days at the jetties due to the waves. Remember parents take your kids fishing and keep their minds busy so they don't end up on the streets. We find ourselves working so much that it seems we don't have enough time but we have to make the time while their (we're) young.
