Good Fishing 03/17/2009
Trout bite in Clearwater is still on and we are getting some really big breeder females and I always try to put these big fish back. If you want to keep fish to eat take the smaller ones under 19 inches.
If we continually deplete the larger egg bearing females and given the current fishing pressure this outstanding fishery will certainly suffer if it hasn't already. I've seen a continually outcropping of fishing pressure in this area due primarily to fishing reports, magazine articles and fishing shows. While it's not problem catching and taking a few for dinner it's quite the opposite when hundreds of anglers continually take larger breeder size fish for the freezer or to feed an entire neighborhood. I've been fishing this for over fifty years and it's always been a wonderful fishery… I'd certainly hate to see it go away because we failed to protect it.
