The trout bite is on fire reports Captain Keith Mixon (www.mixinworkwithplay.com). In the past week several trout weighing up to six pounds have been caught during the last few hours of daylight. Both artificial lures and live bait have been used in three to four feet of water when targeting trout. During calm conditions, Mirrolure's MirrOmullet 16mr808 has continued to entice many trout to strike just south of Titusville in the Indian River. When using live bait, a free lined fingerling mullet has worked well around sandy pot holes. When fishing with live bait it will be important to use them near other school of bait fish.
At Port Canaveral, many flounder with an average weight of four pounds has been caught around boat docks and other areas with sandy bottoms. Many of these flounder have been brought to the boat when fishing with scented jerk baits such as Bass Assassin's 4 inch "Good Penny" sea shad. Fishing this bait off the bottom with a slow retrieve will provide a good combination for a solid hook up. With a closed season, catch and release snook have been feeding on live shrimp and pinfish near the jetties. Most of these snook have measured up to 30 inches in length.
