Fraser Valley report for the week of April 1, 2007
Weekly update
Fraser River / Fraser Valley Report
Sturgeon
Sturgeon fishing has been good to excellent for the past week and a half. We have been on the water daily averaging 8 to 12 fish per trip. Most fish are in the 2.5 to 4 foot range with the occasional 5 or 6 footer. All baits have been working well this past week; one day it's eels, the next day it is smelt. Best to have a good selection.
Over the next few weeks we will see an increase in sturgeon activity as the smelt begin to enter the river. Key feeding period is from mid April to mid May, which means peak spring fishing. Our weekends are getting full, we still have a couple dates remaining, and our weekday trips are still available.
Steelhead
The Vedder River is high and not really fishable at this time. Hopefully the rain will hold off another week and allow the river to drop a bit more. If we do get this opportunity there should be lots of fresh fish in the river system. If the rain does hold out this is a great time to get out the fly rod. The Vedder will produce some very nice fish during the month of April.
Harrison River& area
The Harrison River has been fishing well for Cutthroat this past week. Although the water is high there are some fish around if you can access the Harrison by boat. The salmon fry should start showing up over the next few weeks, which will really bring on the trout fishing. The Fraser's high water will not help for Fraser fishing but should help keep some of the Harrison fish from migrating out. Keep a close eye on the shoreline; this is where you will find trout feeding.
We have been exploring some of the other local trout streams and having some good success for both Cutthroat and Dolly Varden. The salmon fry are just starting to hatch, we have seen quite a few this week and trout are definitely starting to key in on them. Check out our weekly pics for some nice photo's of this weeks guided trips.
Stillwater Fly fishing
Some of British Columbia's best trout fishing occurs on local lakes located in the Merritt /Kamloops area. This region is easily accessed by car or truck from our central location. Within an easy 2-hour drive, we can be fishing some of the best trout waters BC has to offer. Most of the quality trout fisheries open to fishing May 1, 2007. We are now booking for day trips into the Merritt area for Stillwater fly-fishing. We provide transportation and single man pontoon boats for all of our Stillwater fly fishing trips. Book now for May to mid June fly-fishing.
Extraordinary Fly-fishing for Sea Run Bull Trout
A peak at fishing opportunities in the Vancouver area - update
45 minutes from Vancouver is one of British Columbia's best-kept secrets. The Upper Pitt River is located at the north end of Pitt Lake, North America's only freshwater tidal lake. Each spring the Upper Pitt River receives thousands of Sea-run Bull trout heading back to their home waters in Garibaldi Park to spawn. Each high tide brings a fresh run of fish into the lower reaches of the Upper Pitt River. We begin targeting this bright chrome fish in mid May with fantastic fishing opportunities through June until mid to late July. Some of the best fishing occurs between May 21 to Jun 31. These fish reach as much as 14 lbs with an average size of 4 to 8 lbs. Incredible action on the fly and light spinning tackle.
We are NOW BOOKING for May/June Sea-Run Bull Trout on the Upper Pitt River.
