Fishing report for the week ending 11/29/09 With a front approaching on wednesday the beginng of the week gave us warm days and light winds makeing for a good mix of snook and redfish early in the days with live shinners and lots of action drifting the grass in 3-6ft of water for mackeral, trout, bluefish and pompano casting softbaits ( white is best).Tuesday fishing with James Martens on the day before the front arrived we caught several slot redfish 2-3 small snook and 3 trout up to 3 lbs. fishing oysterbars with live shinners on the high tide, in the afternoon with the falling tide we were able to do one of my favorites casting topwater plugs in 3ft. of water or less. In the next couple of hours James caught 12 redfish from 3-7 lbs. with one being 9 lbs. several smaller snook a trout up to 3 lbs. By the end of the day James became a believer that this not only produces bigger quality fish but seeing a fish blow the plug out of the water being it a hookup or not is as good as shallow water fishing gets. James said he can"t wait to do it again. Wednesday fishing with John Fox and his two sons on a rainy but warm day proved to be great action fishing schools of mackeral ,bluefish and big ladyfish that were attacking baitfish streaming out the passes. These guys went home wet but happy from getting double and tripple hookups at a time. Thursday and Friday brought the coldest weather we have seen since March and strong winds limiting us to fishing canals in the mornings with slow action. Thank goodness the mackeral, bluefish and pompano dont seem to mind this but finding a place to get out of the wind was tough. Saturday and Sunday gave a much needed warmup the latter being the best day with Mike Pietrowski and his son, we caught a dozen small rat redfish up to 17 inches and a few small snook fishing troughs near the mangroves with a shrimp under a poping cork. In the afternoon it was all the mackeral, bluefish, a few pompano and a uncountable number of ladyfish for these guys. Even though we had several less than perfect weather days this week provided a lot of fish for a lot of people.
