Talk about a banner day of fishing on Saturday Sept. 22nd to complete the "Battle of the Badges" inshore fishing tournament in New Smyrna Beach. This benefit tournament could not have went any better with near perfect weather conditions and most of the 300 registered anglers tearin em up! Not to mention the redfish turned in showing off his 91 spots. Yes, this is correct, 91 spots on a redfish! Photos will be coming on my next report. Thanks to Jim Morgan and the entire Volusia County sheriffs office for putting together such a great event.

Schooled up reds can be found all over Mosquito Lagoon as the water level is at it's highest. Find the right sand holes and you can easily catch over 30 reds in no time. Most fish are in the slot limit but the big boys are around too in deeper water running the bars chasing the migrating finger mullet.

Pigfish are a sure bet this time of the year but are slowly getting bigger and soon will be out of the question for live bait. Cut ladyfish and mullet have also been working well.

As we move toward the fall months the grass seems to be all over the place. Throwing a weedless jerkbait in light colors have been working well in areas of the lagoon that are now covered with water. Redfish and trout are really spread out with the high water giving us alot more area to cover. Fish these places that you normally connot get into and your bound to find some singled up fish willing to eat. Perfect for the fly fishermen!
