Captain James Stegall and his Deckhand Brian Stegall had the joy of fishing with a wonderfull group of people that came to have fun and were very successful at it! The group: Ziba (Dan) Graham and his wife Melissa Graham were joined by Chris Smith, Kara Romero, Catherine Lee and Malory Smith.
The day started slow with Captain James running the boat out for a couple of hours only to find a boat sitting on the specific hump he had chosen to fish prior to leaving the harbor. A new site was selected and once the boat was on anchor it became very obvious that the day would be a little rough due to current and wind conditions causing the boat to sit sideways in the troughs most of the day. Adding to that the next problem to overcome was the attack of the spiney dogfish. (bait stealing menaces that should be eradicated) (plus one bit captain James!) The crew lessened the problem as much as possible with bigger bait to deter the dogfish and right at tide change the bite turned on and continued steady for a couple of hours. Malory was able to boat a 125 lb Halibut and a 58 lb Ling-cod. Everyone on the boat did a fantastic job of fishing, catching and assisting with the big ones as they were boated.
This group is one of the many groups that all of us stay in this business for. They love to fish, have a good time and are a blast on the boat.
Fishing in the Gulf of Alaska has remained very good for Halibut and Ling-cod and now the Silver Salmon (Cohos) are really beginning to show up.
