The walleyes seems to have made there move east to deeper waters early this year than others, probably due to the warmer spring weather.
Most anglers and charters for the past few weeks are fishing five to six miles east of Kelleys Island in 40 to 41 feet of water. Mayfly rigs and Erie Dearies are being fished at a 15 to 20 count. Since the Mayfly hatch many fish are being taken on a 3 to five count.
Most anglers have been satisfied with the quality of fish, but disappointed with the numbers in the cooler at the end of the day. We are all hopeful that the numbers will get better.
Perch fishing on the other hand has been good with many good catches being reported. Again, most anglers are fishing the deeper waters east of Kelleys Island off the Airport.
Don't let the lower than usual numbers discourage you, remember fishing is always great, catching is a bonus.
KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED FOR A GOOD HATCH THIS YEAR. WE NEED IT!
