Wulp, the walleye trolling slow down may be apon us. Starting with that cold front that started a week ago last Thursday, along with the accompanying high winds, seemed to put the walleyes in a real funk. I talked to several guys that went out Saturday with limited results (6 hours 4 fish). And I tried myself Sunday for a while in the rain and finally the wind, and the results were also dismal. I was marking fish both high and low but very few biters. The water temps were in the high 60's to low 70's depending on where you were and the water column was visibly dirtier. We need a few days of flat calm and warmer temps (I think) to bring them back to life. And even though the temps are supposed to recover, the forecasts keep calling for wind and rain, front after front. I do believe the upside though is that the perch will start showing an interest soon in all those regular spots in the Black Hole and along the shipping channel. And we might even get a late fall bite of those "Huge" walleyes like we did last year around mid to late November. That bite only lasted about 2 weeks, but was really something to behold. I'm really not that disappointed about the rain, as we need to get the rivers and Sanford Lake up some for the fall walleye runs to be both timely and sustained. I'm already getting ready and geared up for those expected arrivals. Might not be to early to book and lock in a date to river with me if that interests you. The best time usually starts around November and last till freeze up. Anyway, here's a couple of pictures of my last trip out on the Bay, along with a bonus picture of my charter boat neighbor holding a 31 pound carp his group caught on a Hot-N-Tot while trolling. Hope to post a few more successful trips before I pull my boat in mid-September. And as usual, be safe, fish smart and tight lines. Capt. Dan.
