The inshore fishing for snook and tarpon has been steady the past week, early morning and late afternoon the bite turns on. Live bait's and artificial lures like doa cal in red and gold and glow and gold work great near shorelines and seawalls. The top water bite for snook is excellent on the falling tide snook, are active do to the warm weather we have been having. Snook season is now open in my area, typical size for the snook is 18 to 32 inches.
The tarpon can be seen rolling on the surface, in Jupiter and palm beach. Tarpon are taking live baits drifted with tide, outgoing is best as water gets a little dirty. The tarpon are in pods ranging in size from 5 to 30 pounds in the back country. The inlets and deep channels are holding bigger tarpon from 30 to 70 pounds.
The seawalls and docks are full of sheepshead, willing to take live shrimp or fiddler crabs. The sheepshead are not really sought after that much, but not only do they taste great, they put on a great battle with light tackle. Sight fishing for these zebra looking fish can be a blast, most certainly with kids and novice anglers aboard.
