Rain Rain go away! I hate starting fishing reports with weather reports but we have been in a wet and windy pattern. Most of my clients are out of state and typical have little room for rescheduling. That was the case for today's late afternoon and evening charter.
The forecast is promising with light winds and less rain and thunder for the upcoming weekend. As a professional Captain safety always comes first, its one area I never compromise.
I have several reports from Captains who were out the last 48 hours. Overall the action was reported as ok at best. The beaches were too windy to sight fish so blind casting was the only way to go. Capt. Jim Fesperman reported he clients hooked a big 40" +++ snook but lost it after a long battle. Capt. Jim reported it was also a challenge finding redfish schools on the Ft. Desoto Flats and Islands.
I did get a great Redfish report, seems the school of over the slot 28" + redfish have taken up residence near Ft. Desoto. The area has easy access for wade anglers and the secret is out. Since last weekend anglers sometimes as many as 30 have been lined up elbow to elbow hoping to do battle with these awesome redfish. Soaking cut bait on the bottom or a live pinfish did the trick. From a distance I witnessed the crowds Saturday and Sunday.
My fishing log shows we were knee deep in Bonita and Mackerel this time last year. I can't wait for this action to begin. These Pelagic speedsters are great on light tackle. Friday, Saturday and Sunday I am scheduled to chase snook in the late afternoon outgoing tides. Stay tuned for details.
