With the summer almost over and fall about to settle in, we experience water temperatures beginning to drop on Lak Erie. This triggers bass, walleye, and yellow perch to feed heavily as they bulk up for the winter months.
In the past five days, we at Erie Quest Charters have had the opportunity to fish with a variety of fisherman, both young and old alike. From a 92 year old great grandfather to an eight year old with a ton of enthusiasm. I absolutely love watching people catch fish and seeing the enjoyment it brings the, along with the smile on their face! The smallmouth bass fishing remains excellent, as well as "limits" of jumbo perch continue to be taken aboard the Erie Quest. We have boated over 300 smallmouth bass in the past five days. Most average around 3-4 pounds. The largest was 6 pounds, 11 ounces. Erie Quest Charters practices "Catch & Release" on all Smallmouth Bass charters.
In addition to the smallmouth bass and yellow perch fishing, we fished for walleye for two hours on Monday after catching 45 smallmouth bass, casting gold & copper bladed weapons, tipped with 1/2 a worm...we put 11 of the toothy ones in the cooler...most of them...2003 class walleye, around 3-4 pounds.
The greatest joy for me over the last several days of fishing, was having the opportunity to fish with a father and his two sons, Carter and Christian, for 2-Days of Lake Erie smallmouth bass and yellow perch fishing. We boated and released 40 smallmouth bass on the first day, along with catching 175 plump yellow perch. Carter, the 8 year old, boated a "double" that included one of the largest yellow perch I have seen...a 14.25 inch trophy perch. We caught 78 smallmouth bass on the second day, with the largest over 6 pounds.
