As soon as the sun got high the Gar started getting active. I started the action with a nice 12lb Longnose Gar but the weight didn't hold very long. Then Julie stepped up with a nice 14lb Gar. Then my Debbie got involved with a very nice 14lb-3 oz Longnose. It was only 10 minutes later when Julie snared the lead back with a hefty 15lb-11 oz Gar that measured 52 inches in length. Overall it was a great day of Gar Fishing on beautiful West Point Lake near LaGrange Georgia. Visit me at

Fish Species: Longnose Gar

Bait Used: Home Made Nylon Rope Lures

Tackle Used: Ambassadeur 6500 with medium action 7 ft rod

Method Used: Sight casting and blind casting, Likea worm but a little faster to keep it off the bottom.

Water Depth: 2-10 ft

Water Temperature: 82 Degrees

Wind Direction: Southwest

Wind Speed: 5 MPH
