This report is for this weekend and today. I got out Sat. at the last min. with the guys from the Bass club for the last tournament of the winter trail. Between the winds, cold and sleet it was tuff to say the least. To start with a couple of guys had problems with thier boat being stuck to the trailers. It was kinda funny but I had never seen that happen before. It took Matt a good 15 mins to get his loose in the water. Anyway, the fishing was tuff for me only catching 4 fish, all short, and having one good fish come off a jig. That was more my fault than anything with a VERY poor hook set. Out of the 8 boats and 15 anglers only 4 fish were weighed in during the 6 hour tournament.
On Sunday the fishing was a little better once I got something worked out and found a little pattern. All my fish on Sunday were boated on a Omega jig and Lake Fork Live Magic shad in the 3.5 inch size. I was fishing over shallow grass when the sun was out good. I found the pattern was I needed sun.
Today I only went out for a six hour trip with a client wanting to hit the lower end and learn to work a jig on deeper open water structure. He more wanted to learn what to look for on the sonar and how to remove un-productive water than anything but did get to see it work. He had a total of 4 keepers and one really nice fish. The weather was just nasty to fish in and started to snow a little the last hour of the trip. I did have a couple of fish on the Crosstail shad and one drum. Sorry for not having a pic but my batt was dead, we took the pics on his phone and he will be sending it to me. All in all a great learning trip for him. I will be taking Tuesday off due to the temps and conditions but on the water the rest of the week. I do have Thursday and Friday open if anyone wants a last min trip. The weather is going to be great for winter time fishing. See you on the water.
God Bless
