Now that the winter is upon us, the fish are finally stageing in their winter haunts.
Lately I have been flyfishing the most, taking advantage of winters clean, clear water. Sightfishing has been the name of the game, and redfish and snook have been the main targets. The last half of the falling tide has been the most productive tide. Shrimp and crab patterns have been the goto choice due to the lack of baitfish. All natural colors tied small, and a slow strip due to the cooler waters. Fish are a little sluggish and are not willing to move a great distance to feed. I have found the cast has to be a foot infront of them so it crosses their path for an easy meal.
In these clean conditions you need to be stealthy, low side arm cast with little false cast. Low profile casting with accuracy on the first cast will be your best chance at hooking up.
I have been seeing alot of redfish in the calm coves, laying and cruising the flats on the edges and in the middle of the crowns on the higher half of the tide. Snook have been hanging around structure off points and current swept shore lines.
As far as the spin fisherman, soft plastics in shrimp patterns with little to no weight has been very productive, as well as Hybrid Flurry Tails.
Fishing is real good right now, and the weather has been fairly consistent. Call and book a trip and experience some of the finest sight fishing in the state. Tight lines and screaming drags to all!
