LAKE RAY ROBERTS FISHING REPORT
1/6/2007
Another year has passed by and as of today I am another year older and wiser so you can expect my reports to get better in 2007. White bass fishing was good this week with the exception of tuesday on Lake Ray Roberts. Tuesday was as tough as it gets winter fishing for Lake Ray Roberts sand bass. It was day after a cold front, full moon, blue bird and no wind. A few fish were caught that day but I could not find a strong bite anywhere. I believe that no wind at all on Lake Ray Roberts was the biggest factor to the slow fishing. We have calm winds in North Texas so few days of the year that I think the fish do not know what to do. Wednesday fished the same areas and found a strong bite at several spots, what a difference a day makes. Friday, with my brother Gary, fishing was slow before noon but the fish turned on in the afternoon and we caught 127 for the day. Water temperature was down to 47 degrees this week and the bite is really light most of the time now. Slow, subtle presentation is more critical as the water temperature falls this winter as is the feel you have with the rod you are using. Cotton Cordell 3/4 oz. spoon was the best bait again this week, chrome colored. Did catch some on jigs with plastics on them when it was slow. I do not have many trips booked for the next few weeks so pick a pretty weather day to go and give me a call. Catching a bunch of cold water sandies on Lake Ray Roberts is a sure fired cure for cabin fever this time of the year. Need to mention all fishing was done on the east side of the lake on same main lake structure I have mentioned in several of my previous reports. I hope I did not confuse you too much in last weeks report I said west side and went on to mention the structure spots on the east side. As I am wiser now that won't happen again, I hope.
Largemouth bass fishing is slow on Lake Ray Roberts in the winter. . A red rattle trap, black and blue jig or black and blue chatterbait would be a good choice of baits in cold water on Lake Ray Roberts. Do not expect many bites but you could catch a fish of a lifetime on any given cast. We did not catch any bass while sand bass fishing this week. Spring warmups will be here before we know it and a lot of big bass will be will be caught in the creeks on Lake Ray Roberts as the water warms.
have a great fishing week,
Tim
