The past couple of days have been super hot with fish catching and not just fishing. The tides have been super high in the morning due to the New Moon so in the a.m. we have been chasing rolling tarpon that are still around. As the sun starts to come up and the flat calm water the Tarpon have been rolling and eating shrimp with the shrimp hatch we have been having down here. Casting flies and D.O.A. shrimp have been getting Super morning eats. As you approach the afternoon time the tides are falling and are very strong and the Bonefish and Permit are up on the flats in super skinny water feeding and tailing everywhere. Flies with no weight and weed guards with long leaders in the 12 to 14 foot rang allows you to make an aggresive cast to these feeding fish without spooking them. Light spin in the 6lb to 8lb test line and long 7-8ft rods allow you to cast live shrimp and very very small crabs with no weight to these fish without spooking them and getting hung in the grass. Alot of the time the fish are in water no deeper than 6 inches of water with the grass about 4 inches long, so the fish have a hard time seeing bait that are to far away. You have to be aggresive and get you cast out past them and then bring it into them very slowly without spooking them. You can get on a flat that everywhere you look you see schools of fish tailing and feeding and it can be hard to figure out which school to go after. You want to try and fish schools that are feeding towards you, you do not want to start chasing fish and spooking the fish off the flat. Try and get into position that will allow the fish to work to you.
