Among the first signs of spring are the Smoker kingfish in the 50+ pound range. To follow will be bigger and larger schools of Mahi-Mahi, my favorite the Blackfin Tunas, and the Sailfishing should remain consistant. Offshore in the evening the Swordfish bite continues to be great but the differance will be in the weather as we should have many more calm nights then our past season.

Last week we had a record catch on the reef bringing aboard a King mackeral over 50 pounds. What a prize catch this was! We had quite a few Sailfish bites jumping a few off and one almost making it into the boat. My friend and client Nick Doup did it again bringing his good fortune from Boston and catching an 84 inch Swordfish bigger than his last catch of 275 pounds. The Swordfish ate a live bait on the tip rod and was boated in 2 1/2 hours. He has the pics of this one so you will have to wait until I get them.

We did a Dolphin trip on Friday morning but the weather was quite cold as we made the trip offshore. The winds were NorthWest and the further we made it out the sloppier the seas became. As the young kids noses were turning blue we decided to go back to the inside and fish. By then the sun came out, the winds layed down and it became a beautiful day. We winded up with a real nice Kingfish around 30+ pounds and had a Sailfish go bollistic on us before he spit the hook and almost made it into the boat.

This is a great time to get on the water and soak a few baits. You never know what the ocean will produce for you.
