CALCASIEU RIVER
Experienced river angler, Travis Merritt, says the Calcasieu River still has some off-colored areas due to recent rains and states the West Fork may be your best bet for clear water but fishing pressure is taking its toll on this area since it has the better conditions. The main river was starting to clear but the amount of rains this week may put a damper on this. Buzzbaits and small spinnerbaits continue to be the top choice for most anglers. 1/4 to 3/8 ounce jigs with rattlers in black/ blue or black/chartreuse are great choices for bass in the stained condition.
SABINE RIVER The Sabine is still very productive right now and this should continue for a while. The water temperatures are climbing in the sloughs and coves off the river so the fish are gradually moving towards the main river, according to Merritt. Anglers should start at the mouths of the larger tributaries and work their way in. Spinnerbaits and shallow crankbaits are great search baits while trying to find fish.
