2 Cape White Eyes, 2 Marlin and lots of Dorado for end 2018.

Offshore Fishing Report – Durban – 18th Last week of 2018

Wow, what a busy week for Fat Girl and Nawty Girl heading up to the end of 2018 not even a chance to post a report. I would like to wish everyone all the best for 2019 and thank all that supported us during 2018.

The weather has made it difficult but with some shifting around we managed to get all our trips in on both boats and accommodate everyone.

So many trips I don’t know even where to start, we had some nice warm blue water move in and then it disappeared leaving us with some colder green water and a screaming current, even so we managed to get good fish on both boats. On one trip 2 very tired little Cape White Eyes (A type of sparrow sized bird) flew onto Fat Girl out in the deep, one went straight into the cabin and one just took a perch on one of our guests. Shame they were so tired. Once they were safe in the cabin the trip continued and once back on the dock we let them go, they were so happy and relieved.

Offshore: Best catches were 2 Black Marlin one day after another, the first one took a Kona and after a 45 minute fight we had it on the leader and it was released, estimated at 150kg, the second one took a Rapala Xtreme in the Sailfish colour and once at the boat the 0.80mm leader was not strong enough and it parted once we tried to tough it, this fish was also estimated at 150kg, sorry for poor pics but too much action. I must say that these Rapala Xtremes are brilliant and have accounted for many fish caught this season and they swim so well. The Dorado fishing has been really good and we have been getting Dorado virtually every trip and some Yellowfin Tuna, also nice Slinger when the East wind was strong and good Soldiers in the colder water.

Backline/Harbour: Backline has been ok with plenty Shad around, the harbour fishing has been tough, we did however get some shad and a few other species and strangely enough some deep sea fish uncommon in the bay like Soldiers and Banana Fish. We also got a really good Gurnard.

I fished competitive for many years and I have been running my own charters since 2008 with 2 companies and 2 boats, fish a variety of styles and target a variety of fish species in both Salt and Fresh water, have many published articles in several magazines on fishing. Love nature and outdoors, Am very conservation minded and have a passion for birds. I am crazy about big Tuna, Marlin Fishing and Game Fishing, and also love light tackle spinning, am a total lure junkie. Represented my province in fly fishing for many years and am also pro staff for Rapala/Shimano. I want to write a book on fishing one day. 3 items left on my fishing bucket list, guess then a new bucket list will be in order. As a writer I have my own quote: \"I love taking people fishing because it releases their inner child, and in doing so keeps my inner child alive.\"
