Orange Beach, Al. – This is the 7th year in a row that we have fished with these guys on a long range style 3 day fishing trip. In the years past, we have always went offshore to specifically target sport fishing opportunities like Yellow fin Tuna, Dorado, Marlin and Wahoo but, with some of the offshore waters closed we went in search of new horizons. We left Orange Beach Marina at 6;30 am and started of trying to catch a little live bait for this long fishing trip. We finally found the bait we were seeking and took off over to the open federal waters that have not been fished much.
We started off catching a few Bee-liners and Triggers. At that point we put out the high speed trolling lures and rode for a good while. Once we had the Boston Butts on the grill we were all lounging around as the preparations were being made to fish the next spot. We then went on to catch a nice limit of big Amberjacks late on the first day after catching 2 more Wahoo's along the way to the fishing grounds.
We had a great time deep dropping for Yellowedge Grouper, Long-tail Bass, Spiney-Cheek Scorpion fish and Snowy Grouper on the second morning. The first stop was kind of a bust however, the second spot was pretty awesome. We caught a pile of fish in short order and the guys were all smiles.
I think it rained the entire day but it kept every nice and cool. Later that afternoon we moved back up inshore and started live bait fishing in 200 foot for Scamp and did they bite. We had a nice catch of the best eating fish in the Gulf!
Thanks to David and Roland for another great time
